Prenatal Acupuncture, Chiropractic, and Massage in NYC
Pregnancy is hard on a body. Alongside your care with our midwives, we offer acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, chiropractic care, prenatal and postpartum massage, and circumcision arrangements for your newborn.
Support That Sits Alongside Your Prenatal Care
Sleep gets harder. Your center of gravity moves. Things start aching that never used to. These sessions exist for the physical reality of carrying a pregnancy, and they run in parallel with your regular visits rather than taking the place of any part of them. Your care with our midwives continues exactly as it is.

Prenatal Acupuncture
Acupuncture places very fine, sterile, single-use needles at specific points on the body. Sessions are quiet, and most people are surprised by how little they feel. In traditional Chinese medicine the practice is described in terms of moving qi through the body.
Pregnant clients most often book acupuncture for:
- First trimester nausea
- Low back, hip, and pelvic ache
- Broken sleep
- Stress that has settled into the body
- Simple comfort as the third trimester gets heavier
Results differ from person to person, and acupuncture does not replace prenatal care. Certain points are handled differently or left alone during pregnancy, which is why it matters that your practitioner works with pregnant clients regularly.

Craniosacral Therapy During Pregnancy
Craniosacral work is about as gentle as hands-on bodywork gets. You stay fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner makes light contact at the head, along the spine, and around the pelvis, moving slowly. Nothing is adjusted and nothing cracks.
People tend to come to us for it when they want:
- Deep rest, and a nervous system that finally quiets down
- Relief from tension held in the jaw, neck, shoulders, and low back
- Something very low intensity when massage or adjustment feels like too much
- An unhurried hour in a demanding stretch of pregnancy
We would rather be straight with you about this one. Research on craniosacral therapy is limited. Treat it as comfort-focused rather than as treatment for a specific condition, and bring any symptom that worries you to your midwife first.

Prenatal Chiropractic Care
A great deal of pregnancy discomfort is straightforwardly musculoskeletal. Ligaments loosen, posture changes, and the weight out front pulls everything forward. Chiropractic care works with the joints, muscles, and ligaments, with most of the attention on the spine and pelvis.
Common reasons clients book it:
- Low back and hip pain
- Sciatic pain running down the leg
- Neck, shoulder, and upper back tension
- Staying mobile through the last weeks
Prenatal visits use modified positioning and a lighter technique built around a growing belly. Tell your midwife you are seeing a chiropractor so your care team has the whole picture.
Not Sure Which Session Would Help Most?
Tell us how far along you are and where the discomfort is, and we will point you toward the option that makes sense.

Prenatal and Postpartum Massage
A prenatal massage is not a standard massage with a cushion added. You are positioned on your side with bolsters rather than face down, pressure is matched to how far along you are, and several areas are worked differently than they otherwise would be. After birth, sessions shift to the shoulders, neck, and low back, where feeding and carrying take their toll.
Most people book it for:
- Tension through the low back, hips, and shoulders
- Heavy, swollen legs and feet
- Sleep that has stopped working
- An hour that belongs to nobody else
Tell us about anything relevant in your history before the session, including blood pressure concerns, any history of clots, or anything your midwife has flagged. If you are unsure whether massage is a good idea right now, ask her first.

Circumcision
Whether to circumcise a newborn son is a decision families make for medical, cultural, or religious reasons, and it is genuinely a personal one. Parents who have decided to go ahead often ask us where to turn, particularly when the birth happened at home or at a birth center rather than in a hospital.
For families planning a bris or a medical circumcision, we can point you to USA Mohel, an experienced mohel practice serving families in the New York area. They handle the procedure itself, and they can walk you through what happens on the day, aftercare, and how timing works around your baby’s first week.
- Timing, and what has to be true before a baby is ready
- What the procedure involves and how comfort is managed
- Aftercare in the days that follow
- Coordinating the day around a home or birth center birth
Circumcision is elective. Major pediatric bodies describe the health benefits as real but not large enough to recommend it routinely for every newborn, which is why the decision sits with parents. Talk it through with your pediatrician or midwife, and raise anything in your family history that might matter, particularly a bleeding disorder.
Who These Sessions Are For
Anyone who is pregnant or postpartum, whether or not your prenatal care happens with Holistic Midwifery New York. Existing clients can often add a session to a day they are already coming in, which in the third trimester is worth more than it sounds.
There is no package to commit to and no minimum number of visits. Book one session, or come regularly. Both are normal.
Booking, Sessions, and Payment
Call the office to book and we will find a time. Session length and current pricing are confirmed when you book, since they vary by therapy.
Does Insurance Cover These Services?
Often not, and it varies a great deal by plan. Complementary therapies are usually handled separately from maternity benefits, though some plans carry a distinct acupuncture or chiropractic benefit that may apply. The reliable move is to call your insurer and ask about those benefits specifically.
Where Sessions Happen
Sessions are held at the same place you see your midwife, which usually means one trip rather than two. Families come to us from across the city and the surrounding area, and scheduling a session on a prenatal visit day is the option most people take.
This page is general education, not medical advice. Acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, chiropractic care, and massage are supportive therapies that work alongside prenatal care rather than in place of it. Speak with your midwife or physician before starting any of them, and contact your provider directly about any symptom that concerns you.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
It is generally considered low risk when a licensed practitioner experienced with pregnant clients provides it. Some points are approached differently or avoided at particular stages, which is why that experience matters more than it might for anyone else. Mention it to your midwife so your care team knows what you are doing.
How early can I book a prenatal massage?
Practices differ on the first trimester, and some prefer to wait. Tell us how many weeks you are when you call and we will confirm what is appropriate for where you are.
What does a craniosacral session actually feel like?
Light. You stay dressed, lying on a table, while the practitioner makes gentle contact at the head, spine, and pelvis. Nothing is adjusted, there is no deep pressure, and nothing cracks. Most people call it restful and a fair number fall asleep.
Can I see a chiropractor in the third trimester?
Third trimester visits are common. The positioning and technique are modified for a growing belly, with tables and supports set up accordingly. Keep both sides informed: tell your midwife you are going, and tell the chiropractor what has come up in your prenatal visits.
Will any of this make labor easier?
We would rather answer this carefully than tell you what you want to hear. These are comfort and wellbeing therapies. Sleeping better and carrying less tension in late pregnancy are worth having on their own terms, but we do not claim they shorten labor or make birth easier, because the evidence does not support it. Childbirth education is what actually prepares you for labor.
When is a newborn circumcision usually done?
A religious bris traditionally takes place on the eighth day. Medical circumcisions are commonly done in the first couple of weeks, once a baby is feeding well and has been checked over. A mohel or your pediatrician will confirm whether your baby is ready. Families we work with often arrange this through USA Mohel.
Does insurance cover these therapies?
Coverage varies widely and is usually separate from maternity benefits. Some plans include a distinct acupuncture, chiropractic, or massage benefit that may apply. Check those specifically with your insurer, and call us for current session pricing.
Do I need to be a client to book a session?
No. These sessions are open to anyone who is pregnant or postpartum. If you are already receiving care with us, you can often add a session to a day you are coming in anyway.
Still Have a Question?
Ask us directly. We would rather answer it before you book than have you guess.
